Highlights
● On 26 August, AFAD, the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Turkey's Government, announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in the 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 218,975. AFAD reported that from 25 to 26 August, a total of 384 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 195 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.
● In Adana Saricam camp, the psychologist from the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Policies informed UNHCR he is conducting individual assessment interviews with the seven unaccompanied minors (05 boys and 02 girls). The psychologist is discussing with the Provincial Directorate the possibility of allocate separate shelters in the city center for these children. A UNHCR team is following this procedure closely and, upon request from the camp officials, will send additional clothes for these children.
● The Provincial Directorate of Family and Social policies in Sanliurfa informed that the Social Services Center in Ceylanpinar was opened on the last week of August and its social workers will cover both Ceylanpinar and Viransehir camps on rotation basis. They will conduct assessments interviews with camp residents, visit their tents, follow up protection cases and with children with disabilities identified by UNHCR. They will also support camp management on issues such as raising awareness against early marriages, SGBV (sexual-gender based violence), etc. The center in Harran town is also supporting the camps in Akacakale and Harran on the same issues.
● In Viransehir camp, officials informed UNHCR that the transfer of non-camp Syrians, mostly from Gaziantep, continued during the last week of August. Camp management informed that the number of non-camp Syrian families admitted and accommodated in Viransehir camp is around 1,700, of which around 1,400 are registered. The camp population has passed 13,000 persons.
